The woke reaction to trans issues reminds me a bit of the Republican reaction to climate change.
For Republicans, markets don't do harms so they can't contribute to environmental damage. Nor would God allow it. Greed is good. So climate change doesn't exist.
For woke people, trans athletes can't be a problem for women's athletics because it doesn't agree with their ideal that trans people are women in just the same way as a chromosomal woman is. So it's just fine that competent trans women win every sport they enter. No harm is done to the chromosomal women who would have won those swimming races. They just have to accept failure as an increasingly inevitable sporting outcome.
Except, of course, the damage is done to them individually and collectively. Because, for real, scientific, biological reasons, they cannot win when confronted by a competent trans athlete.
And that is also one reason why US politics so often fails to find solutions. Because principles are never allowed to develop the great raft of exceptions which is what makes for an enlightened politics. It's why a concrete rights structure is doomed to fail, just as stone tablet structures failed previously. Because folks get wedded to the ideals and ignore when the ideals don't flex to experience. It's why virtue-signalling is so obnoxious, because all it is is prim self-righteousness.
