There have been two studies, one in Hong Kong and one in South Africa, which report it's milder.
But of course everyone is cautious, in case what's true in one place and in one population is not true elsewhere.
The immediate known risk is that it is super-contagious which means that the people who do get sick will do so in a bunch. That's potentially bad for hospitals even if it isn't as bad for people individually.
In the UK, we have a really large number of cases but apparently no increase in hospitalisations. Same as in South Africa where the numbers of deaths haven't increased noticeably, even now. And their new cases are declining already.
For me, it hasn't yet proved it produces large numbers of very sick people so I reverse the burden of proof. Early signs look positive but we'll see.
