But this is also a product of a dysfunctional constitution. It would be more healthy to have more than two parties. Then, if one went off the rails, folks could move their allegiance more easily. But the way the constitution allows votes to be gerrymandered and allocated in favour of small states, and the way in which incumbent senators are incredibly difficult to replace means the bit where senators and house people represent the will of the people is no longer the reality.
It's a train wreck and terribly sad to watch. And alarming too. Because for four years under Trump, the US acted like a dictatorship. And there's no guarantee it won't happen again, especially because Trump hasn't been thrown in jail for attempting a coup.
