We’ve seen a few elected representatives weigh in on the Kyle Rittenhouse trial, but it’s something for a sitting congressman to declare that Rittenhouse should be locked up and the key thrown away. Aren’t politicians supposed to pretend to defend due process?

It was also last summer when Rep. Ayanna Pressley tweeted that Rittenhouse was a “white supremacist domestic terrorist.” And President Biden featured Rittenhouse in a video calling him a white supremacist.
Glenn Greenwald ~ What happened to the whole thing about criminal justice reform, prison abolition, the evils of the carceral state, the inherent pro-prosecution bias, rehabilitative justice?
It all instantly disappears based if the accused has the wrong ideology. Then it's: law and order!
Glenn Greenwald ~ I also don't believe the people saying this have watched much or any of the trial. They're instead demanding a now-18-year-old be imprisoned for life because they know their political followers want to hear that or they're looking for positive social media attention: both gross.
Glenn Greenwald ~ With both Rittenhouse and the 1/6 defendants, it's absolutely bizarre (and more than a little grotesque) to watch liberals jettison every criminal justice reform principle they claim to believe because of the ideology of the accused, and suddenly turn into pro-prison fanatics.
Glenn Greenwald ~ This actually all started with Russiagate. They wanted people like Michael Flynn imprisoned for years for a "crime" -- lying to the FBI -- that liberals like Ruth Bader Ginsburg long argued shouldn't even be a crime. The only crime they want punished is rejection of liberalism.
Glenn Greenwald ~ (This same sick dynamic is why they're content to watch Assange locked away in a dungeon. The only crime they care about that they think he committed was publishing authentic docs that reflected poorly on Hillary Clinton and the DNC. They want their political enemies in jail).

That's the point: nobody who is remotely an advocate of criminal justice reform could support this, but he has the Bad Ideology, so to the dungeon he goes:
