Immediately read as politics to me too. Letitia James appears either to be way out of her depth or to have a really nasty vein in her character. She can't separate her ambition from the scales of justice.

The photo suggests the guv and the woman were past the point of distant formality. They look close. Once you are hugging, body parts will touch. Are lawyers now going to rule out hugging at work?

Don't they know that becoming close is a human nature thing? Operates even in an office. There just isn't one way to relate and for sure cold formality is unnatural once you know someone well.

It's also easy to understand how Cuomo might have misconstrued the relationship. I find it hard to believe he is being charged. This looks like woke craziness, laced with the cyanide of political ambition to me.

Look at this pic, saw it the first time today. Does she look troubled, its HER arm around him.

The sheriff is NOT the one to take this action.
Since the DA didn't one wonders if the charge will go ahead.

In response to the complaint, Rita Glavin, an attorney for Cuomo, said in a statement that the former governor “never assaulted anyone, and Sheriff [Craig D.] Apple’s motives here are patently improper. . . . This is not professional law enforcement; this is politics.”

Cuomo spokesman Rich Azzopardi accused New York Attorney General Letitia James, whose office investigated Cuomo’s behavior earlier this year and who is planning to announce a gubernatorial bid imminently, of playing “Albany politics and perhaps worse.”

“The truth about what happened with this cowboy sheriff will come out,” Azzopardi said in a statement Thursday night.

The victim is not named in the complaint. But Brittany Commisso, a former executive assistant to Cuomo, has publicly accused him of similar actions and has filed a criminal complaint against him in Albany. An attorney for Commisso did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
