Oct 2011, a couple of feet of snow fell north of the city only, especially in northern Putnam and Dutchess. I left the house a couple of hours before I had to pick up my wife at JFK, and within less than ten minutes I was stuck in non moving traffic. It took me 6 hours to go back home. There was no snow when I left, by the time I got a few miles down it was a disaster. Crazy. Those few miles took me longer to go back than driving to DC. I still remember the cracking tree sounds as they were coming down from the weight of the snow on them as the leaves had not fallen yet. It was scary looking up and hearing sounds….

So grateful this isn't snow!

A powerful Nor'easter is sweeping through the region, bringing even more rainfall than originally projected, scattered flash flooding, and damaging wind gusts up to 60 miles per hour that could cause power outages.

Rainfall totals of 4 to 8 inches with locally higher amounts are possible for parts of the region shown in dark green in the second image above.
