Yes, but the Republicans, being in the minority in Wisconsin, despite their holding 60% of the legislative seats (the wonders of gerrymandering), they want to do everything possible to eliminate state-wide elections. If they could get away with it, they'd vote to have the Governor appointed by the legislature. After all, when the most recent Democratic Governor was elected, they immediately striped the him of most of his powers to fill state offices. The Republican-controlled legislature in Michigan did the same thing when a Democrat was elected governor this last time around.
