The 2,000 deaths per million milestone is right ahead of us. Roughly one in 500 British people have died of covid. We will pass it in the next week.

Vaccines have done a wonderful job. We've seen highs around 10% of previous waves. But the numbers rack up, even so.

Meanwhile, a small number of countries has already breached 3,000.

It's not the plague. But it isn't much fun, either.
