That is a myth.

Florida has changed tremendously over the decades, and south Florida, south of Palm Beach all the way to Miami is an amazing mix of people and ages. I have never seen so many schools within a mile of each other as in its most populous county, Broward county, which includes Fort Lauderdale, Coral Springs, Parkland, Weston, etc. Every few blocks you have to observe the flashing yellow lights speed limit because you’re in a school area, making it a bitch going out to get things done in the afternoon or getting to work in the morning. Furthermore, the amount of infrastructure work going on, and bicycle lanes being built is insane. Cycling is the new golf south of Palm beach. A1A is filled with droves of cycling folk along the ocean, especially on weekends. You won’t see even half that number anywhere in America.

Neighborhoods where there were mostly retired living there, resettling from the north, and are now filled with families and kids, as the old folks expired and new blood moved in. Exponential population growth.

There still are some communities, especially in central Florida and along the beach on both shores that have a large mix of older critters, but that’s not the south part any more. It is also getting more spanish speaking up to and about Pompano beach, but not so much in Boca and north of there. There still are, of course, over 55 communities, but they are not just filled with 80 year olds and above.

South of Palm is the best place in America to spend winter in America, offers some of the best, and worst, America has to offer. I call it New York City by the beach. It also has crazies, “freedom freaks”, the works. In summer, other than some storms, the ocean is placid, perfect temperature, and air conditioning is king. The one thing they suffer from is the monotony of flat earth, not much to see. Nothing like the Hudson Valley in NY.
