Last Saturday we left Cape May at 11:00 AM up the coast heading to New England. At 2:30 in the morning we ran into bad weather from a front moving through. We hung around for a couple hours waiting for the seas to calm down. Didn’t happen so we ended up turning around and coming back to Cape May thinking we’d try again in a couple days. On the way back I discovered our main engine water pump was leaking.so we decided to abandon our trip altogether and come back to the Chesapeake. On Monday the pump gave out as we were crossing the C&D Canal. So stopped in Chesapeake City and replaced it with our spare. We’re now in Annapolis.

I sure am happy we cancelled the trip. We’d be in Connecticut or Long Island today if we had not.

Could get interesting around here Sunday and Monday. Right now, that thing has a bead on us - right about where it goes from Topical Storm Henri to Tropical Depression Henri. It won't be a hurricane when it's this far north but I am giving thought to the likelihood that NH builders probably didn't give much thought to actual hurricanes when they nailed down their roofs.

The new house does have hurricane straps - I've always been a little wary of that 50 mile view. Unfortunately, that's the side Henri will be coming from.

If I remember right, the roof is supposed to handle winds of up to 180 mph. I'll believe that when I see it.

For me, this will be an experience. I was probably in a typhoon when I lived in the Philippines, but I was 2 or 3 at the time. And I was in a nasty derecho in 2011, but it only lasted half an hour.
