Note that I took my car into the dealer a couple of days after we got back ostensibly for our first oil and filter change (a bit late, but the trip turned out to be longer than originally planned, with most of those extra miles being beyond our control). I had them check the navigator and other features of what they call the 'Infotainment' system. Anyway, they said their scan of the system indicated that the SD-card, containing the maps, threw a few error codes during our trip and so they replaced it and hope that that solves the problems we experienced. Note that while we were still on our trip, after we had the problems but when it started to work again, we did notice that on at least two occasions, the route that the system gave us for a destination was totally bogus. When we noticed what was happening, we resorted to the Apple CarPlay option using the Apple Maps app.
This is what a three+ week long road trip looks like, and this doesn't include the two Vrbo rentals that we had in Michigan because they used push-button door locks (which is really convenient for something like that, they just text you the 4-digit code, which is changed for each new renter):
