...I too have an aversion to software that just wants to make my life easier by tossing all privacy issues to the wind and doing whatever they want with my computer regardless of what I tell em. I do not want to "share" anything. I do not want to "synchronize" anything. I do not want to "upload" anything into a mysterious cloud which I am not fure that the information is any more secure than Hillaries secure server in the closet of that convenience store. My interests, and those of a majority of other folks, is SECURITY and PRIVACY. There are websites out there now that will not let me access with a "password". I gotta go there and entire my login and then they gotta send a code to my cellphone (which means they gotta have my cellphone number) and I have to send the code back and then it will let me enter my password. Once ya tell em ya have a cellphone ya can feel them set the hook.

Liberals are like a "Slinky". Totally useless, but somehow ya can't help but smile when you see one tumble down a flight of stairs!

Which is why I like to back up my important data to a
USB type drive which goes into my file cabinet where
nothing can access it.

I also have two USB sticks. Once a week when I update
my data I then copy the latest data onto both sticks.

(Periodically copying off the data then storing another
external USB drive with the data 'off site' is another
good practice if 'loss of data' could be catastrophic.)
