John is instructing the Church and reminding it that Jesus Christ said that we are to LOVE one another. This was given in the ten commandments and is northing new John says.. He is reminding the church to be like HIM, who demonstrated his love for people while he was here on earth. He had compassion on the sick and lame and diseased and healed them all. He went to a cross for you and me..
So we have a GREAT example.. Jesus LEADS by EXAMPLE....
