He is very talented in lots of areas De! Musically gifted as well as mentally gifted. It's a very rare combination.

You guys should really be proud of that young man.. He is something special, I think you would agree.
Children as they grow up never cease to amaze us with what is inside of them.. Now I can focus on my daughters' kids much more because I am not in the middle of the forest running a rat race so its a lot easier for us.. If we can just get past the arthritis part though......... lol!!

Like Joey, Amanda was musically talented in VOICE and was an operatic Soprano for the Wittenberg University touring Choir which performed at Ground Zero when they got the pit cleaned up. Mayor Guliani asked them to come and they did.

The mayor across the harbor from New Jersey heard them and asked them to come over to their city and perform also. They did.

Amanda was in something called SHOW Choir all through high school where they sing popular songs and have a routine the entire choir performs on stage. My oldest daughter played the keyboards for them because the music was live and not a tape.

They won the competition in Toronto, Canada over fifty other show choirs back in 1996 and went on tour over in Europe that summer to Austria and Switzerland and Germany.. I have a HAT from ground Zero a couple months after the buildings were destroyed.. I will always have that hat... It was purchased at that site..

So our families have someing in common with our musically talented kids...

A side note. Andrea, my oldest was playing a tremendously difficult piece of music for a Christmas themed show on the stage of the Grand Ole Opry one year.

Several of the stars of the Opry were listening and the manager of the Theater came up and wanted her to play for them that night.. They wanted her .. I still am in awe of her talent.. She is a High School advanced sciences teacher with a doctorate... micro biology..

She is the one with my graduating grandson and junior year grandaughter who is already committed to play softball for a top div. 2 womens Christian university which is an hour away from us and my wife's sister worked 30 years at.. She got the best athletic scholarship they give any male athlete theywant her that much.. So the grankids have talent their dear old grandpa did not have...

This is why geting older seems to be more fun than being younger..

I sure do enjoy the talent of these youngsters and you sharing Joey's successes. It restores my hope in the upcoming generations to some extent.

Re: “My daughter got five thousand dollars from the Legal Foundation that runs a competition”
Five thousand dollars? Wow! Your daughter is amazing! Joey, on the other hand, isn't always so impressive. Let me share a story...

A looooong time ago, at a high school far, far away, my son was enrolled in AP Chemistry during its first week. The teacher saw Joey, scraggly and unkempt, staring at the ceiling for a good part of the class, seemingly zoned out. He later told Joey that he sized him up as a probable drug addict. LOL. The good old days! What he didn't know was that Joey was a member of 'The Generics' rock band and was trying to look the part. It was about the time that the video above was made. "Staring at the ceiling," on the other hand, was a direct result of something the teacher was wearing reflecting just over Joey's head... As Joey tells it, after the 1st exam was given and 'the drug addict' wound up with the highest score, the teacher decided that maybe he needed to reassess the kid.
