Europe's economy contracted by 0.6 percent over the first three months of the year, sliding into another recession.

Coming a day after the United States disclosed that its economy expanded 1.6 percent over the same period, the downturn presented a contrast of fortunes on opposite sides of the Atlantic.

However, recent signs suggest that Europe's fortunes are already improving.
