You can't tell, but there's a significant gap between the front of the hood and the top of the grill. The damage could amount to more than just replacing the hood. In fact, we haven't yet opened the hood out of concern that it might not be so easy to close again. Who'd have thought such a small branch would screw up a big truck like that? I'm just lucky it missed the windshield. - De

Re: “We had 10" of snow fall. It should melt off by Monday”Our snow was gone by late SUNDAY. That was nice - the quickest meltoff of that much snow that I can remember. But when I headed out for a drive on Monday, I found that a 6" thick limb had broken off of our sugar maple and smashed in my truck's hood. You've gotta take the bad with the good around here.

Our deductible for such things is just $50 and the insurance company has already cut us a check for $684, so the truck is headed into the shop this afternoon for an estimate and possible repair. (If $684 doesn't do it, our insurance company will consider giving us a second check. On the other hand, if it costs less than $684, we keep the difference.) It's an old truck. I'd be content with hammering it out and repainting.
