I understand, but ... and maybe I'm being too kind-hearted ... BUT ... I've always viewed Monica Lewinsky as far more of a duped ingénue than a real mistress.

It would be a stretch for me, though. I don't see a "Claudia" as being someone a married man would want to have a long-term relationship with. (And doubly true if the married man is married to the Claudia.) For me, a Claudia is more of a barroom slut... a woman who winds up in the parking lot with whoever buys her the most beer.

I think my wife's got it right. She thinks the best alternative for "mistress" is what it's been for decades: MONICA.
