The story is the women of the village of Souli, in nortwestern Greece, jumped into the canyon and killed themselves so that they wouldn’t be captured alive by the Turks. The song is a song that says goodbye to life, sweet life, etc.... The US soldier singing, amazingly, has no accent, she is amazing, singing such a song with the classic intonation required.
