Pfizer points out a difficulty with the threat. A key ingredient of their vaccine, a fatty molecule, which is made under a five year contract, and which is in short supply globally, is manufactured in the UK.
If the EU fails to ship contracted doses to the UK, the UK may stop this key ingredient from being shipped to the EU, Pfizer says.
Oops.
Not that the UK has made this retaliatory threat itself. But it has hinted at serious consequences if the EU stops shipments of doses that are assembled there from being sent to the UK in accordance with international contracts written by the manufacturers. Every country is constrained by mutual dependence. That includes the EU.
People in glass continents should not throw stones.
