The first one is what needs to be done: universal background checks. Supported by 90% of Americans.
The second, elongated background checks to 10 days is STUPID. From 3 days to 10 days. What for? Who the fk thought of that, and why does it help in anything?
If we are going to make sensible gun controls, we won’t make any when we throw shit at the American people.
Another thing the gun control crowd says, A LIE: Guns can be purchased online. You can buy online, but it won’t come to your house. It goes to a licensed FFL dealer you designate, and you have to go there, pass a background check, and pick it up 3 or 5 BUSINESS days starting from the day after the original invoice date.
So, DON’T LIE or you will lose support. We all want safe, secure, and prudent gun purchasing laws, but BS won’t cut it.
Below is Florida’s procedure, and it works great. For those who have a conceal carry permit, for which they have to go through a class, fingerprints, and wait a month or two, the waiting time is waived.
“ IF YOU HAVE A VALID CONCEALED WEAPONS PERMIT, YOU CAN TAKE THE FIREARM HOME THE SAME DAY YOU PURCHASE IT AFTER PASSING A BACKGROUND CHECK AND FILLING OUT PAPERWORK. IF YOU DO NOT HAVE A VALID PERMIT, THERE IS A 5 BUSINESS DAY WAITING PERIOD THAT STARTS THE DAY AFTER THE PURCHASE AND DOES NOT INCLUDE WEEKENDS OR HOLIDAYS (BACKGROUND CHECK CRITERIA STILL APPLIES). SO, GENERALLY, IF YOU BUY ON A MONDAY, YOU'LL BE ABLE TO PICK IT UP THE FOLLOWING MONDAY AFTER 5PM. IF YOU PURCHASE ON A FRIDAY, SATURDAY, OR SUNDAY, YOU'LL BE ABLE TO PICK IT UP THE FOLLOWING FRIDAY AFTER 5PM. THE WAITING PERIOD STARTS THE DAY AFTER PAYMENT IS MADE.”
