The tabloids are pretty horrid things. They hound people of all stripes. They certainly hounded Diana and they hounded Charles. They hounded William and Kate. They hound actors and footballers. They hound government ministers and politicians on both sides. They raise up celebrities, then trash them.
But I can't think of any time they have been nasty about someone because of their race.
I guess it's possible that someone like Meghan might think she is being hounded because she is partly black. And if she was a white person, she might think it's because she is a woman. But actually the UK press hounds everyone because it is their nature to hound people.
If any prominent person gets involved in a tricky situation, or if they are merely in a powerful position, they will hound them. It's like the scorpion in the story. They cannot help themselves.
It would be nice to have a more reasonable, less sensational press. But stories sell newspapers. So they turn the material they discover into exciting stories by making them seem more ... interesting.
It must make being a celebrity miserable. But they have an equal opportunity approach. Doesn't matter what colour you are. They will hound you.
