The description given to Harry by Meghan's father was "snotty". It may be sticky... as a description, that is.

Harry should definitely be removed from the line of succession. Not because anyone wishes to be mean. But because he and Meghan are not capable of playing the role of sovereign, which is about selflessness, dignified silence, bringing the British and Commonwealth people together, representing the country, trustworthiness, rising beyond mere celebrity. They, on the other hand, are divisive virtue signallers who, by their own choice, took the money offered by the Netflix deal and the diamonds given to them by the murderous sheikh, victim claimants who are themselves accused of bullying their staff, Marie-Antoinette celebrities in their mansion playing the part of do-gooders towards the vulnerable, always making sure a photographer is present to document their do-goodery.

In bringing Archie up as an American, I don't think he will fit in either. This isn't meant to be mean to a sweet little kid. It's just clear that the cultures and values are too different to permit it. Woke individuallism is the opposite of selfless duty. And selfless duty is the essence of monarchy. How can he learn that in his California mansion with his whiny, self-righteous, entitled parents?

America is heading down its roads. One of these, the claim to victimhood, is well represented by Meghan, with Harry in tow. The position that everyone is a victim, both as part of a group and individually, is something I hope will go away [except in the case of extreme abuse]. But right now, it's an important strand of American everyday culture. And it is remaking the country. Minority wokedom is a part of what Democrats focus on, labelling all sorts of behaviours racist or sexist or anti-someone's "rights"... at the drop of a coin. Trump made white wokedom a tenet of the Republican Party. We are all rights-claiming victims now, not noticing that it is in their nature that rights overlap and sometimes compete with one another. One person's "right" to a religious view wants to occupy the same space as another person's "right" to an identity of their own. And so even the manufacture of a cake is a battleground. There's nowhere for rights-based conversations to go but towards toxic argument.

So different from the muscular character of ages past. "Never complain. Never explain." Lovely to see that banner flying amidst the host of sharp-nailed, woke complainers whining and scratching for ownership of their slice of the territory of freedom. Even as the mass of victims is joined by the snotty-nosed, title-wielding claimants in downtrodden Montecito.
