The US needs a new system, both for removing mentally impaired people from office and for holding corrupt presidents to account. This much is obvious.

Er. That won't work. The election is not in issue. The courts have decided it.

Trump's attorneys are abandoning him because of it. They may have thought there was a constitutional case to make about impeaching ex-presidents, or that the incitement charge is defensible. But they don't plan to lie about the election.

He's just going to be left with a bunch of buffoons attempting to change the subject to what he wants it to be again. Hello, gavel.

Trump is charged with inciting an insurrection leading to trespass on the Capitol, danger to Congress and people losing their lives. If he can't defend himself, then GOP senators will have to go on the record to convict or not to convict. Should losing presidents be entitled to provoke violence so as not to depart the White House? Or put another way, what do they want? Truth or politics. Law or obeisance. Democracy or anarchy.
