The end of a farcical day.
In case you don't know, the EU tried to hijack more than 3m doses of the Pfizer vaccine ordered months ago by the UK. It did so because it made its own orders late and so is still not ready to manufacture the large number of doses they need. Apparently it takes time to bring a manufacturing facility into production mode. The EU thought it was like a tap. You just switch it on and it pours out millions of doses every day.
So they saw the UK was already getting large numbers of doses and decided they wanted them.
Unfortunately, there are contracts and the UK ones determine the fact that UK orders are sent to the UK.
You wouldn't think there would be an argument. But the EU is not only slow but also jealous and greedy.
At any rate, they have been reminded there's a thing called contract law. That the UK has ironclad contracts. The EU claims to believe in the importance of a legal system.
So the EU has no leg to stand on. They have been forced to reverse course altogether. The UK will keep its doses. The EU will wait for its own to come on stream.
It is humiliated twice over. Once because its ordering process was a disaster. The second time because it took positions it has been forced to retreat from the next day.
Viva Brexit. So glad we have left the madhouse.
