As a follow-up to this item, I just watched a report where this 'overfill' issue was discussed with a former head of the FDA, and he explained that this was normal since not all syringes are created equal. What he meant was that the design of some syringes result in there being a small amount of un-injected serum left in the barrel of the syringe. Now there are standards for what that maximum allowable amount is and the vaccine vials are filled based on the assumption that the syringes being used are ones from the maximum end of that allowance. But there are other brands of syringes where this residual liquid left in the barrel of the syringe is kept to an absolute minimum. And if these are the types of syringes being used, it's quite possible to get an additional dose, or even two, out of a nominally filled five-dose vial.

It appears that Pfizer, when they were setting-up the machinery that fills the vaccine vials, made sure that they did NOT short the number of doses per vial. Well, it seems, based on reports from the medical personnel who've been administering the vaccinations, that the vials, which were labeled to be holding five doses, actually have been yielding at least six, and in some cases, seven doses. If this proves to be consistent across all the shipments, there could be hundreds of thousands of extra doses out there available to the American public, at least until Pfizer tightens their allowable tolerance when filling the vials:

FDA Says Pfizer’s COVID-19 Vaccine Vials Could Have 2 Extra Doses In Them

The agency said vaccinators should “use every full dose obtainable” to inoculate more Americans.
