Asked about Mr Trump's lack of concession, Mr Biden said the president was sending "incredibly damaging messages... to the rest of the world about how democracy functions" and that he would be remembered "as being one of the most irresponsible presidents in American history".

Yes, Trump is a unique case of a dreadful leader.

But no, this is not a message about how democracy functions. It is a message about how American democracy functions. Biden has to stop his habit of downplaying US failures by internationalising them, while isolating failures in other countries when they actually apply to the US as well (remember his early, derogatory remarks about Italian healthcare and their response to covid?). It's a noticeable weakness in his world view. Step off that pulpit, Joe. Your perspective needs a shift. America is no better than others.
