Pop singer Katy Perry sparked criticism after she urged fans to set aside their political differences and reach out to their President Trump-supporting family members after Joseph R. Biden became the presumptive president-elect over the weekend.
“The first thing I did when the presidency was called is text and call my family members who do not agree and tell them I love them and am here for them,” Ms. Perry, an outspoken Democrat, tweeted to her 109 million followers.
“Call your family today. Happy Sunday,” she wrote, including the hashtag #FamilyFirst.
Ms. Perry was accused of perpetuating White supremacy with her comment. She did not respond to the backlash.

We aren’t going back to the pre-2016 status quo white supremacy. Y’all need to be snatching up your family members and slapping the white supremacy out of them.”
