A federal judge blocked a Justice Dept. bid to shield President Trump from being sued for defamation over his denial of a rape allegation.

The Justice Department had intervened to represent President Trump against a defamation lawsuit by the writer E. Jean Carroll, who claims he lied when he denied raping her.
But Judge Lewis A. Kaplan of Federal District Court in Manhattan rejected the department’s attempt to defend the president, meaning the lawsuit can move forward against Mr. Trump, in his capacity as a private citizen.
