A sufficiently large proportion of Americans choose boasting, bullying, lying, cheating and cruelty to the vulnerable that it now counts as a characteristic.
Other Americans may heroically and rightly oppose these flaws. But let's not pretend they are unAmerican. They are a large proportion of what America is. And it shows up. Not just in politics.
There is a better America in there. But you can't disinfect a country without sunlight. The nasty ideas will only die if they are exposed for what they are. Sadly, they are American ones.
