Boss,
I have a distinct feeling 'we' might need to do more research into
this area.

>>>
do aluminum screws degrade?
>>>
Aluminum as a metal is lighter and doesn't rust. Aluminum corrosion does occur though, here are the reasons why corrosion occurs and some tips on how to prevent or correct corrosion if it does occur in your next metal fabrication project.
>>>
Tips to consider when using stainless screws on aluminum. Do not expose to water; Salty water is an electrolyte that can easily corrode either the aluminum or stainless steel material when they come into contact with each other. Therefore, it is important to always separate the two metals as soon as possible especially if the environment has ...
>>>
Aluminum is rust-resistant, meaning it doesn't degrade due to oxidation caused by iron and oxygen. Rust only occurs in iron and other metals that contain iron. Steel, for example, is susceptible to rust because it contains iron.
>>>
For example, if the base material is a large sheet of aluminum, then using very small stainless steel screws will not dramatically decrease the life. Conversely, if you use aluminum to attach a large sheet of stainless steel, the aluminum life will be dramatically shortened.
>>>

Just quick notes from a quick duck-duck-go search.

Captain,

not to throw any water (pun intended) onto yer screws, but you do know that Stainles actually does rust?

Just saying. Yeah, they are stronger than carbon steel screws BUTTTTTT, iffen it is going to be on water the best choice is ALUMINUM, even if ya has to initially thread the hole with anther screw, back it out, and then run the aluminum screw into the hole... That aluminum screw will not rust. Just an idea...
