Number of daily new cases in South America is definitely slowing, although the deaths continue from the pool of existing patients.
Whereas Europe is more contagious again. And it's everywhere. Italy has now succumbed, to join Spain, France and the UK. Germany is coming along.
The US was fairly unique in having a summer surge, but this appears to have been partly because the US is bigger and the virus took longer to spread in its weakened condition in the less populous states and partly because the response in the GOP sunbelt was so pathetic. At any rate, the second wave is beginning and it looks bad. Looks like the US will join the 700 club in a week.
