Ah but he doesn't. At least not in that way.

In the right-of-centre model, people are schooled by life's difficulties into behaving with circumspection and muscular individuallism. They think destructive events weed out the weak people and poorly-run businesses.

Those of us who think government plays an important role when unexpected catastrophes cut the muscle as well as the fat from society see different solutions as making sense. Sometimes, the government should step in.

The reason all of the airlines are failing isn't because they are badly run. It's because for a brief period of history, everyone is scared witless and so they aren't flying. No airline company can manage their way through such an event. Do you let the industry die, have pilots retrain to learn about digging ditches? Or do you have government keep the industry afloat until there's a vaccine or a cure?

That's one example. I think you use the government's borrowing capacity and have your pharma people research like crazy to find a vaccine that works well enough that people feel safe again.

McC lets the industry die and says, see, I didn't borrow. Hurray.

He had polio when he was young.

I wish he'd show the same concern for Americans & help pass a bill.
