Basically, the new right of centre party ought to position itself more-or-less where the right of the Democratic Party is, in opposition to Woke Progressives and Trump Conservatives. Prudent, not extremist. Honest, not corrupt. Pragmatic, not ideological. Smart government, not big or small.

Hope they construct it differently than just another version of what ended up with Trump.

By all means lean against government profligacy but get away from the silly stuff about government being the problem. By all means encourage free markets but don't pretend they are always benign if unconstrained. By all means oppose woke ideas but don't thoughtlessly rule out common goods. Go ahead and make America as great as possible, but quit with the greatest talk. Be sceptical of progressive ideas, but not cynical. Do free trade, but retrain people that lose their jobs. Don't assume unemployed equals lazy, sick equals worthless, people equal units of consumption and nothing else. Remember that money isn't the only sort of wealth. Go on opposing equality as a goal and also oppose gross inequality. Try humility. Step down from the pulpit.

Be prudent, as the word conservative has lost its original meaning.
