I suspect a misunderstanding here somewhere Boss.
I installed the Open Office as a replacement for microsloth orifice.
Open Office does have a data base program they call 'Base'. Open
Office has had no problems opening up microsoft office documents -
Word, Excel, Visio diagrams no problems whatever.

But it won't open and run my old Access database. I run that under
XP on an old machine and that is about the only thing I do on
that machine.

I tried the latest Open Office program with the latest version of
'Base' and it still won't open and run my database. I also took a quick
look at maybe re-writing my database in Base . . . a LOT of work to
do that. (And Base required java to even start working.)

As far as I know using Office 2013 and your old excel and word, I
would not think you should have any problems with those things.

I think it was 'Office 365' and that seems to be an internet only
version and it had severe problems trying to open the Access
databases I used to use at work. (They were going to it when I
retired.)

Personally I think I'd just stick with Office 2007.
But then I'm old school - if it ain't broke don't fix it.

Zim

so the remedy was to install JAVA (JRE) on the puter because the old computer you took this from had JRE on it also? And it now works... That's actually very interesting..

I think I will stick with my old but reliable Microsoft Office 2007 . I am contemplating buying office 2013 for little to nothing. I don't know how much different that would be on the excel program or Word or Outlook...

Don't want to have to re-learn all that.

Do you have any wisdom on that perhaps? I would like to hear if you do please...

Thanks!

micro...
