And this whole thing stems from the Governor issuing a directive earlier that increased the number of days for early voting and allowing counties, for the first time, to install drop-off boxes for absentee ballots (Texas does not allow vote-by-mail, you have to have an excuse).

Anyway, his own Texas Republican party threatened to sue him trying to disallow drop-boxes altogether and this is the only compromise that he could get them to agree to, reducing drop-off boxes to ONE per county. This has the stink of Lt-Governor Dan Patrick, a big Trumper who wants to primary Abbot in the 2022 election and who's famous for saying that all older Americans should go to work and sacrifice themselves so that schools and businesses could reopen.
