"Michel Barnier, the EU’s chief haggler, told his UK counterpart Lord Frost the EU was not serious about preventing food shipments being sent to the province."
The cause of the brouhaha over the UK saying it would unilaterally amend the withdrawal treaty was because the EU used as a bargaining chip in the negotiations the prevention of food exports from Britain to Northern Ireland - that's to say, they used the text of the treaty to threaten the movement of food within the UK. The British government said no way can you threaten to starve the Northern Irish, treaty or no treaty.
The EU have now backed off.
But the bullying, one-sided, extortionate response of the Democrats has left a bruise. They sided with the EU and their starvation threat, rather than step back and try to resolve the issue sensibly. The threat should never have been made. The Dems should never have supported it.
Now we know how they think.
