More generally, Republican supporters say the Democratic Party has a disdain problem.

The opportunity when you lose is to learn something about the reason you did so. That applies to the Dems too.

It's unpleasant to see the Dem pulpit being rolled out as they close in on victory.

Incredibly, the current US Secretary of State is apparently the only American politician taking a position that is respectful of an ally and that isn't structured as an extortionate demand.

"Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said in a joint White House briefing with Mr Raab: “We trust the United Kingdom. I am confident they will get this right.

"We have made clear the importance of the Good Friday Agreement. We know the complexities of the situation.”

"We have done what we can to provide assistance where we can. In the end this will be a decision for the UK to make and I have great confidence that they will get this right.”"
