If you listen to the video, he talks about the effectiveness of birdshot against an "unprotected bad guy." I agree with him ... if the bad guy is not wearing any protective armor, a standard 2 3/4" 12 gauge #8 shot load at 15 feet IS very lethal. However, there are other factors that can come into play. Did you place the shot in the head or center mass? How big is the bad guy? Is the bad guy tripping on illicit drugs?

Penetration of errant shots is definitely a concern when firing inside a house and trying to find the sweet spot somewhere between excessive penetration and assured lethality simply boils down to your personal circumstances and preferences ... and then you just hope for the best if the time ever comes for that to be put to the test.

There is nothing quite like a 12 gauge for ending a fight, but inside a house, it's a cannon that can cause a lot of collateral damage. My personal preference is the Kel-Tec Sub-2000 in .40 S&W. It is a folding pistol-caliber carbine. You can get extended magazines that will hold about 30 rounds. Coming out of the 16" barrel, a 165 grain .40 caliber bullet hits like a .41 magnum, but it is extremely controllable, even with several rapid-fire shots, because you have the forearm and stock of a rifle. Put a light on the forearm that you can click on and off and you are ready to operate effectively in the dark. And when not in use, it compactly folds up for storage. Just another option.

I'll stick with the double OO buckshot. I doubt it is going to penetrate my brick walls and I want that nitwit who feels entitled to break into my home to not be standing or breathing if I zap him like fly with a swatter using my 12 gauge 16 inch barrel pump shotgun.. If he's still breathing I can alwys shoot him again.

Its an interesting point the man is making though...

SO, he's saying that the birdshot at 15 feet is lethal???

Do we know that for a fact???
