It's how the Ohio athletic association said we have to do it in order to keep the umps and refs safe. They do not contact the ball. They SPOT the ball with a red marker and the center places the ball when the line comes to the line of scrimmage..
I agree its different and annoying but if ya want to play at all its what they have to do... It sucks..
... right before each offensive play, the center spots the ball. What the heck is that??? Here, the official spots the ball - period, end of story. I have never seen that before.
