This was done as a distraction.
Anything to take the focus off of Trump comments on the military.

Race issues are a problem, equal justice, is the larger problem.
Trump makes matters worse.

Or put another way, his supporters like the fact that he bulldozes restraints on public conversation.

I have some sympathy with them, although my definitions are different. You want a broad highway for conversation. But there is a need for guardrails as well.

This is the lesson that the left finds hard to learn. That its own narrow strictures over public speech are very unappealing.
