Not to confuse "public speech" with private or managed venues for speech, which are entirely different things. I don't have to listen to anyone's heavy metal.

Or put another way, his supporters like the fact that he bulldozes restraints on public conversation.

I have some sympathy with them, although my definitions are different. You want a broad highway for conversation. But there is a need for guardrails as well.

This is the lesson that the left finds hard to learn. That its own narrow strictures over public speech are very unappealing.
