That is some really amazing things you guys were able to get. I love historical stuff and that Bible was printed during the Civil War, about a year into it.. That by itself made it worth more than $65.00
The Plutarch books are a great find.. Your Library will be enhanced for these teasures you stumbled into.. Good for you guys you were perceptive enough t realize what you were looking at, not just some old books...
Thumbs Up Thumbs Up Thumbs Up Thumbs Up
Great find my friend!

We went to an estate sale today -- the good kind run by the family, not one of those run by a company charging maximum dollars for everything. In fact, everything at the sale was by donation. My wife and I ended up paying $65, but the family members didn't even pay attention when I was slipping the money into their box.

It still felt like a steal, but they were encouraging us to take much more than we did, even putting things into our five boxes as we exited the house. They said that everything remaining will be put into a dumpster tomorrow - and that's downright tragic.

We mostly bought books and magazines. They included an 1801 (yes, EIGHTEEN OH ONE) series of six books on Plutarch, an 1856 Bible - the huge kind, with beautiful color prints that was given to a couple on the occasion of their wedding in 1862, a series of 1873 Copenhagen tourist pictures that my wife found on-line selling for $254, two boxes of Life magazines with favorite issues from 1945 through 1970, 'The Dramatic Works of William Shakespeare' vols 1 and 2 published in 1830, etc. Most of these are in poor condition, but wow. They'll be nice additions to our future living room's bookshelf.
