Re: “...one-fifth of 1 percent of the world's population. Yet 20 percent of Nobel Prize winners are Jewish”
Yep. It may be tied to the way that in both Christianity and Judaism, the brightest of the bright youngsters have been pushed for thousands of years to study religion. The sharpest of Christian boys became priests and the sharpest of the Jews became rabbis. Priests, of course, then had no children. Rabbis married into the families of the most successful Jewish businessmen and had many children.

Now consider Darwin and the effect of these two practices over time. In Christianity, high intelligence became an evolutionary dead end. In Judaism, intelligence was encouraged; it thrived; it led to propagation and the creation of a whole lotta smartass Jew children.

So there's that.

It's ironic, I think, that in human history there have been two microcosms of humanity that really stood out for their intellectual accomplishments: Germans and Jews. They haven't much gotten along.

“There are 13 million Jews in the world, one-fifth of 1 percent of the world's population. Yet 20 percent of Nobel Prize winners are Jewish, a staggering hundredfold surplus of renown and genius. This is similarly true for a myriad of other ‘everyones’ -- the household names in music, literature, mathematics, physics, finance, industry, design, comedy, film and, as the doors opened, even politics.” – Charles Krauthammer (1950-201Cool writing in the Washington Post on Sept. 25, 2006.
