There is a national coin shortage De. The normal supply that would keep circulating thru the banks by people bringing coins they saved to stores or banks and getting cash has slowed by well over 75%, so those coins are basically at people's homes instead of available in rolls from financial institutions who then provide them to retailers and merchants. The sohrtage for circulation is real. Likely more so in rural areas.

In my area it finally stopped. You cold not buy things with cash and get any change back... That has ended... So it's coming back.

Let people move about unrestricted again and watch the things start returning to normal..
