He's trying to avoid losing and the loss of face which is a crucifixion to his fragile psyche.

He won't worry about the law if he can figure a way around it via the levers of power. He and Barr will probably try to work out the coup via marshall law at this point if they are going to. But I don't think they'll succeed.

He's certainly going to claim the election is fraudulent. So looking forward to the frogmarch.

Mr. Trump has no authority to unilaterally change the date of the election, which is set by federal law. His suggestion comes as polls show him trailing far behind Mr. Biden in surveys of nearly all of the key battleground states. And Mr. Trump’s claim that mail voting leads to inaccurate counts or fraud is false.
