And this order, declaring all local mask restrictions unlawful, was released just hours after Kemp met with Trump at the Atlanta International Airport. There's a rumor that one of the reasons behind the Governors order may have been because officials in Atlanta noted that Trump, and most of the members of his party, were seen at the airport without face masks, which technically violated local ordinances and could open them up to being cited and possibly fined. They claim that when the governor heard about this, he immediately ordered that the local mask ordinances were unlawful so as to save face with Trump. He felt that it would look bad if some judge in Atlanta were to issue warrants agasint White House staff members, even if they didn't include the president himself.
A side note: It appears that not all Republican governors share the views of Georgia's Kemp, as several of them have issued statewide face mask orders in just this past week, including the governors in Mississippi and Alabama.
