If the virus is still increasing, which it looks like it is, the next three or four days are going to produce scary numbers. Well over 60k.
But although deaths lag, something has happened to the risk of this virus. It's true worldwide. It's not killing as many people as it did. It may have mutated to avoid killing the host because the nastiest versions did just that, which is inefficient from a viral viewpoint.
