to realise that laisser faire is the cause of so many of America's catastrophes.

Fail to prepare. You get disasters.

Fail to regulate. You get disasters.

Fail to respond. You get disasters.

One day it's financial markets. Another it's a city. Another it's an oil rig. Another it's a virus.

Sometimes either nature or the market wants you dead. The best way not to be is to prepare, regulate and respond.
