That might explain a bit of it, clo, but not sure it explains everything. Particularly beaches are outdoors and so less risky. Also, younger people mostly get milder expressions of the disease which don't end up with them getting tested and counted.
Although put another way, perhaps it is true that people are figuring how to isolate the elderly more effectively.
One additional observation. It is happening on a global basis, not just the US. As far as I know, Indians, Peruvians and Russians don't behave in similar ways as Americans and yet the mortality rate is low in all three. It's about a quarter what it was internationally.
Seasonal variation is something that happens with flu. It weakens in the late spring and returns in the autumn.
There's some evidence that vitamin D is an important variable: it would actually explain quite a lot.
Generally speaking, I find this virus mystifying! Lots of variables in play.
