I remember when Joe Biden made his remarks about the pandemic in Italy, and was derisory about the health system there.

I notice that yesterday, Italy had 163 new cases. It records 3,908 cases per million over the course of the pandemic.

I guess they responded pretty effectively, not just from a healthcare but from a social viewpoint.

They've done better than the UK too.

Worth noticing. Biden should apologise. It's the drumbeat claims of superiority that rankle. Trump is worse, but he exposes a common issue.

When will the US stop thinking it is exceptional. It will only be exceptional if, as the most powerful nation, it remembers it is like everywhere else. Power comes and goes. Ask the Assyrians, the Medes, the Egyptians, the Persians, the Macedonians, the Romans, the Byzantines, the Caliphates, the Franks, the Holy Roman Emperors, the Chinese, the Spanish, the English, the Germans and the Japanese.

The three Putin-inspired strongman autocracies stand out at the top of the coronavirus list showing the number of recorded cases.

The US has 2.12m cases, Brazil 830k, Russia 511k.

Strongman fantasies don't respond to pandemics well. Something in the egotistical brains of their leaders doesn't give a damn about the peoples they govern, I suppose. They prefer looting to governing.

Nothing to do with testing, obviously. The US is nowhere near the top for testing on a per capita basis.
